Blackjack can be played with anywhere from one to eight decks. The house edge rises in proportion to the number of decks used. The more decks that are in play, the greater the house edge, mainly because cards are removed less frequently in multi-deck games.

Dealer standing rules vary from one blackjack table to another. Dealers do not make any decisions when playing their own hands. Instead, they must draw to a specific total dictated by the casino where they work. Based on these fixed rules, we can distinguish two main versions of the game:

• When the dealer stands on a „soft 17“ (S17), the rule favors players because 17 is generally below the average winning total of the game, which is 18.5. This lowers the house edge by reducing the dealer’s chances of beating you.
